Protests and Strikes in Luxembourg

Find out important travel and access information useful when international protests and demostrations take place near to the EC institutions, or in the event of strikes and industrial action.

The Luxembourg-Kirchberg quarter in north-eastern Luxembourg City is home to many European Union institutions, most notably the European Court of Justice, parts of the European Commission and the Secretariat of the European Parliament. Because of this, there are occasional protests and demonstrations, which occasionally affect roads and transport services.

Protests in Kirchberg-Area

When protests take place in the Kirchberg area, shuttle busses are often organised to run every 10 minutes, free of charge, from the Glacis car park.

Auchan shopping centre, Utopolis Cinema complex and Lux-Expo exhibition centre might be closed.

Strike Action

Luxembourg is also sometimes affected by transport and other strikes and industrial action in the neighbouring countries Belgium, France and Germany.

Rail and road

Cameras are set up on all the main accesses roads to Luxembourg. These provide live, continual feeds which can be watched on the traffic website. Information is also available from the Automobile Club du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg (ACL) website.

From time-to-time the train service is reduced due to strike action in Luxembourg or abroad. Schedules of trains running are posted on notice boards at stations.
