Tourist AttractionsCasemates de la PétrusseThe main attraction in Luxembourg, these underground galleries run under the fortifications and date back to the 17th century. Since 1994 they are classed as a UNESCO world heritage site, along with the old town. Guided tours are available in English, French and German.
Palace of the Grand-DukeAlthough the official residence of the Grand-Duke is Colmar-Berg castle, most official duties are carried out in the Grand Ducal Palace in the city centre. The Palace is adjacent to the Chamber of Deputies. Guided visits are organised from mid-July to mid-September, except on Wednesdays. Tickets can be purchased at the Luxembourg City Tourist Office. Visits are in various languages, each of them at set times. The GrundThe old city of Luxembourg, which includes the Beguinage and small streets following the Petrusse river, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Grund is also a central part of the nightlife in Luxembourg, either in the old part or near the Rives de Clausen. In the summer, the Grund hosts the free Jazz Rally with over 60 jazz and blues bands.
The Mullerthal (Little Switzerland)The Mullerthal, also known as La Petite Suisse Luxembourgeoise, is in the East of the country. The region's main city is Echternach. The region is ideal for walking, hiking and mountain biking. There are several places to visit, including the Abbey Museum, the Prehistoric museum and the Rural Archeology Museum. It also hosts the annual St Willibrord dancing procession. Larochette is the second largest city in the area and is a popular tourist destination. Visitors can discover the ruins of the Larochette castle. The town also hosts the European Ballooning Championships every summer.
The Moselle ValleyThe Moselle Valley is renowned for its vineyards and water sports on the river. Remich is the main town in the area and visitors can taste the wines of the nearby vineyards. Mondorf-les-Bains, a popular spa resort, is situated near Remich.
Days out in The ArdennesThe Ardennes region covers the north of the country and borders both Belgium and Germany. In Diekirch, visitors can discover the National Museum of Military History and its exhibition of unique objects from World War II. Guided walking and mountain bike tours can also be organised by the Tourist Information Office. The Haute-Sûre and Our National Parks provide opportunities for practicing water sports activities on the lakes. The region also has many signposted paths for walks and bicycle tours.
