Luxembourg has a historical multicultural background and actively promotes arts and history.

Luxembourg Card

The Luxembourg card provides access to 56 tourist attractions and public transport free of charge. There are also reductions on another 12 sites in Luxembourg. Cards can be bought for one person or for groups of two to five people.

The card is valid for one, two, or three days and is available from:

  • Tourist Offices
  • Stations
  • Hotels, campsites, youth hostels and private accommodation
  • Most participating tourist attractions

Museums in Luxembourg

Luxembourg is home to a number of museums; museums featuring art and handicrafts and museums of industry, transport, trade, agriculture, viticulture and nature.

Musée d'Histoire de la Ville de Luxembourg: The Luxembourg History Museum has a permanent collection portraying key moments in the capital's history. Visitors can discover architectural developments and many aspects of cultural and social life through multimedia installations and a wide variety of exhibits. Regular temporary exhibitions are hosted here. Guided tours are available in English on the first Sunday of the month at 16:00.

Musée National d'Histoire Naturelle (Natur Musée): The permanent collection of the National Museum of Natural History focuses on world history, ecology and evolution. Each room has a different theme on subjects such as planets, the Earth, regions of Luxembourg, landscapes and our ancestors.

Photothèque de la Ville de Luxembourg: The Luxembourg Photograph Library contains over two million images of the country, some of which are available for purchase.

Musée National d'Histoire et d'Art: The National Art and History Museum collections include modern and ancient art, archaelogical objects, weapons, medals and coins. Temporary exhibitions take place throughout the year.

Am Tunnel: Contemporary art gallery situated in a tunnel underground that links the headquarters offices of the BCEE, the Luxembourg national bank. Art on display includes works by over 100 artists from the Grand Duchy and a unique collection of photographs from Edward Steichen.

Annual Events

The State Museums (d’stater muséeën) in the capital organise two major events each year providing an opportunity for tourists and residents alike to visit the temporary and permanent exhibitions. 

The first event of the year is the Invitation to the Museums (Invitation aux Musées) in spring where visitors can participate in workshops, special guided tours, discussions and themed tours. In the autumn, Museum Night (La Nuit des Musées) includes visits, special concerts and performances.
